The CCASA Call to Action
CCASA has been a significant leader in bringing awareness of the crime of sexual violence to the forefront. Our goal from the onset has been to educate society about this crime, the impacts that it has on survivors, and the underlying attitudes that help perpetuate its normalcy. We encourage people to re-evaluate the norms they may hold and challenge some of the views and judgment they may have surrounding the crimes of sexual abuse and sexual assault.
We recognize that sexual violence is a very complex issue and one that will never go away if we fail to address the bigger picture of why sexual abuse/sexual assault is allowed to continue and more often than not, with minimal consequences to the offender. If we merely offer educational tips on how to prevent a sexual assault, or provide people with education programs that place prevention of child sexual abuse in the hands of parents and care givers through tips such as minimizing one on one adult/child interactions, then we are only addressing a strategy that may or may not work to minimize an act of violence. We are NOT addressing the root cause and underlying reasons of why these crimes are able to happen in the first place.
CCASA strives to enhance the health and well being of all people and our broader community through responsible and effective programs in sexual abuse education, research, advocacy, crisis intervention and counselling that all address the root causes that allows for sexual violence to continue in our communities. It is our goal to educate individuals in our communities on what these are so to increase awareness and understanding and personal insightfulness so to be able to keep moving forward to initiate behavioural changes.
Please take the time to go through our website and read through the resources we have provided. Our call to action for you is to “educate yourself and empower a community!” Let’s work together. Let’s make a difference and together we can create healthy communities free of sexual violence!
