Sexual Assault Voices of Calgary
Awareness of Offender Accountability.
The Sexual Assault Voices of Calgary is a broad based coalition of front line organizations, non profits, Alberta Health Services, and the Calgary Police Service who share a common vision to reduce the number of sexual assaults in Calgary and its surrounding area by reaching out to and targeting those who commit them – sexual assault offenders themselves.
CCASA is one of the founding partner organizations within this collaboration, and as a strong group with a clear vision, we are working together to create a world without sexual violence.
Don’t Be That Guy Campaign
On October 13, 2011, the Sexual Assault Voices of Calgary launched the “Don’t Be That Guy” poster campaign throughout Calgary with the goal of raising awareness and educating community members on alcohol related sexual assaults and the laws of consent, while holding offenders 100% accountable for their behaviours.
This campaign was created and launched by Sexual Assault Voices of Edmonton in 2010 (www.savedmonton.com).
The reason for this campaign is NOT to segregate of offend anyone but rather to get people talking about sexual violence; to learn the laws of consent; and to target the ones who are committing the crime in the first place – the offenders who have CHOICE in what they are choosing to do.
We know and educate everyone that most men are not offenders, but most offenders are men. Statistically 98% of sexual attackers are men. This campaign is saying don’t be THAT guy – the one who does sexually assault a person who did not consent to sex.
